Still Loved, No Longer Worn

Imagine opening a wardrobe and finding a piece you are pleased to see, then reaching past it. Nothing is wrong with it. You simply do not choose it anymore.

That is a more interesting situation than the tidy instruction to keep what you love and discard the rest. Sometimes you still love it. The pleasure of owning something and the habit of wearing it have quietly separated.

SO. by Sora began in Riyadh in 2018, with cherished objects in local homes and a question: where might they go next? That starting point gives us a useful subject for conversation. A valued piece can remain valued even when its place in one person’s wardrobe changes.

There is no need to invent a dramatic farewell. A garment may suit an occasion you rarely attend. A bag may ask more careful packing than you now enjoy. Or your preference may have changed without supplying a persuasive explanation. Taste is allowed to do that.

Equally, keeping a piece can be a perfectly considered decision. Wearing frequency is not the only way an object matters. The point of an onward route is to make a choice available, not to turn every quiet shelf into unfinished business.

Before making that choice, try separating two questions. Do I want to keep this piece? Do I expect to wear it? The answers do not have to match. Knowing that can make a decision more honest, whether it ends in keeping, sharing or exploring consignment.

The imagined wardrobe can stay open a little longer. There is room for affection and a practical decision on the same hanger.
